Point rounding is used to 'round' clock records to specified increments or "Points". It is configured within the shift in the system set up section.
Example A
Employee A has a start time of 08:00.
Employee A Clocks In at 08:01.
The Grace Period is set to 00:03, which Employee A has clocked within.
The System will take Employee A's record and 'round down' their clocking time to 08:00am.
Terminology
Penalty - the amount that is rounded i.e 15 mins
Grace Period - how late a person can be i.e 3 mins
Let's look at the rules set up screen below:
Clock In - This rule, is moving any Clock In action to the nearest 15 minute Penalty with a Grace Period of 3 Minutes
Example A
Employee A has a start time of 08:00.
Employee A Clocks In at 08:01.
The Grace Period is set to 00:03, which Employee A has clocked within.
The System will take Employee A's record and adjust their clocking time to 08:00am.
Example B
Employee B also has a start time of 08:00am.
Employee B clocks in at 08:04am.
The Grace Period is set to 00:03, Employee B has clocked outside of their Grace Period.
The System will take Employee B's record and adjust his clocking time to the nearest 15 minute increment.
As Employee B has clocked outside of their Grace period, the Clocking Record will be moved to 08:15am.
NOTE: (These rules are distinct and separate to Zoned Rounding, and explanation of which can be found here.)
