Within Chronicle you have the option to create variable shifts. This is a shift that's divided into two or more separate periods of time. This can be a great option if you have employees working split-shifts.
The Variable shift setup option is located in the left menu under 'Settings', then 'Shift and Rosters' and 'Variable Shifts'.
Creating a Variable Shift
You'll first need to create each part of the shift as individual shifts using the normal way i.e. 0600-1000 and 1300-1700, we'll then be able to join them together onto one day. Be sure to include the "Must clock in between" options for each part shift.
For more assistance creating new shifts, please see this guide: V2 - Shifts – Chronicle Computing
Also, create a blank shift called "Multiple*" which we'll use as a placeholder to later on show that a variable shift is being used.
To view existing variable shifts simply double-click on one, or to create a new variable shift click "Add Variable shifts"
Create a Multiple Roster
To create the roster which combines all of the previous steps into a recurring pattern click 'Add Variable shifts' and name it something suitable along with the length. For my example, In this example I've used a 7-day roster.
In this example the working week consists of split-shifts Monday to Friday, and Saturday and Sunday rest days. You can assign the shifts to the roster by ticking one or more days, selecting the relevant shift or variable shift, and clicking Assign.
Once the roster is saved, you can go ahead and assign it to an employee using the 'Change Roster' option within the employee profile.
