Within Chronicle, you can create what is known as "accrual rules" - This is where the employees can gain additional entitlement for length of service.
To locate existing accrual rules or create new ones, select the 'Settings' option in the bottom-left of the home screen menu items then 'Holiday, Sick & Absence' and finally the 'Holiday Accrual' option.
Creating & Applying Holiday Accruals
Creating the Accrual Rule
To begin creating a new holiday accrual, select the orange 'Add Accrual Rule' option or, to amend an existing accrual rule, double-click on the relevant one to access the details.
Name - This would be the name of the accrual rule.
Accrual Type - This is the type of accrual rule, either standard or custom.
- Standard - The standard type is just a simply rule whereby the entitlement will increase by X number of days after X number of years worked.
Custom - The custom type allows you to define in further detail how the rule works, allowing for additional increases after various amounts of service.
Increase entitlement by - This is the amount the entitlement will increase by for this rule.
To a maximum of - This will be the maximum amount of entitlement that can be achieved with this accrual rule (The screenshot above assumes the base entitlement is 20 days).
After - This will be the amount of years the employee has to be in service before the entitlement is added.
Once the details have been applied, click 'Save' to finish.
Applying the Accrual Rule
With the accrual rule set-up, this will need to be applied. An accrual rule is applied on an individual basis within the employee record. Once you have located the employee record, navigate to the 'Entitlements' tab and select the relevant accrual rule from the 'Accrual Rule' drop-down.
Please note:
- Holiday accruals are based on holiday year. If the holiday year is January - December and an employee starts on November 1st 2026, the employee will not receive the additional day of entitlement until 1st January 2028, effectively working 1 year and 2 months before earning it.
- If 'Is from Join Date' is ticked against the holiday year within 'Company Settings' the accrual rule will be based off of the employees join date.
