If terminals have been purchased, they will usually be set-up within your environment prior to receiving them. In most cases, these areas will not need to be visited however, some functionality can be found within these areas that can change the terminal and how it can be used.
This guide will go through the three 'Terminal' options which are located within the 'Settings' option found in the bottom left of the home screen items, then 'Clocking Terminals'.
Terminals
This will be the area where you'll find the terminals associated with your environment. The terminal(s) that you have received should already be set-up and displaying here.
On the right-hand side, you'll see a 'Last Heartbeat' column - This is important and can make you aware of any potential connection issues at the terminal. Terminals usually bring back a heart beat to Chronicle every minute or two.
If there hasn't been a heart beat for some time, it suggests that the terminal is no longer connected to the internet. If there is no heartbeat at all, this is because a change was actioned against the terminal such as an employee download - This should populate as soon as the download has completed.
Double-clicking on a terminal will display the basic terminal settings.
Name - This will be the name of the terminal, this can be amended if necessary to something that makes sense to your business i.e the terminals location.
Type - This will be the type of terminal it is. This should not be changed.
IP Address - This is where you can enter the terminals IP address if needed, this does not link at all and is solely for display purposes.
Serial No - This is the serial number of the terminal. This should not be changed.
Site Code - The site code is a reference to the location of the terminal.
Cost Centre - This is where you can assign a cost centre to that specific terminal, it will pull through the select cost centre to employee work records.
SIM Enabled - This will be enabled if the terminal is SIM based.
Use Badge ID 2 - This can be enabled if you want to enter the employee badge ID in 'Badge ID 2' rather than 'Badge ID 1'.
Safe Point - With this enabled, employees can use the terminal to register themselves as "safe" in the event of a fire alarm.
Active - This will remain enabled as long as the terminal is within your environment. This should not be changed.
In this area, you will likely only ever need to change the: Name, Site Code, Cost Centre, Use Badge ID 2 and Safe Point.
Terminal Groups
With terminal groups, you'd create a specific group and assign a specific terminal to it. This will allow only specific employees to be downloaded and use the terminal that is associated with the group that has been applied to their employee record.
Within the 'Terminal Group' section, you can select the orange 'Create Terminal Group' option to create a new one, or double-click on an existing one to see which terminals are assigned.
Name - This would be where you name the terminal group, this could be for example, a site location or department.
Terminals - Here you will tick which terminals you want to be assigned to that specific group.
Once named and the terminal(s) assigned, select 'Save'.
Before downloading employees to the terminal, a terminal group must be assigned. These can be assigned individually or in bulk using this guide: V2 - Assigning Terminal Groups – Chronicle Computing
Set-up Terminals
Within 'Set-up Terminals', you'll find details about the terminal(s), this will be where you'll be able to download the employee information to the terminal, as well as if advised to, change the configuration of the terminal (In most cases, this will not be required).
Download Button - This is what you'll select to download the employee information to the unit.
DLD - This is configuration on the unit, various DLD files offer different methods of clocking at the terminal. This will always be pre-set and will not be required to be changed.
Command - This is not a setting that will ever be required to use.
Config - Enabling this will download the DLD file when selecting 'Download'.
